"Antipasto"
“Cameriere, il menu per favore.”
This sums up so much of this second week of ILS. It’s almost comical. Its not only that the students have had opportunities to frequent Italian restaurants, but just the ‘smorgasbord’ of activities and occasions for learning. Its true that many restaurants and outlets are beginning to recognize them and their entourage. This is also true with the other international students within the European University of Rome itself: “You are still here!” Streets and routes are becoming not only more familiar, but a part of home.
Variety is also a word to describe the experiences of ILS beginnings in general. Classes are becoming more intense and interactive. Students who originally felt uneasy about different aspects of the art of leadership are openly indulging in discussions and class activities. The communications class especially requires open participation, working to build character and fluency based on individual merit. Business Ethics classes have begun, with an amazing wealth of information. It’s a challenge which will be a perfect match for our ILS students.
The “icing on the cake” is always the tours and hands-on element of the program. We have a fully-animated history professor by the name of Jan Bentz who leads students all over the city. His most recent course was an “old city tour” which included what remains of ancient Rome and significant elements of it history, which he later applies to today’s “leadership trends.” A chance occurrence took place on Friday when it snowed all over Rome. It was enjoyed by most, and celebrated, as it has not snowed in this city for more or less of 2 decades!
The flavour of the appetizer has been intense; get ready for the 1st course! Avanti!
